Rising above ground

Eighty Eight O'Connell has emerged above the street level site fencing, with the entire ground floor foundation now complete. This substantial 7,500m² of area involved eight separate concrete pours! Level 1 concrete foundation works are now well underway.

The three lift cores, which make up the structural heart of each individual apartment tower, are being meticulously constructed using a jumpform hydraulic self-climbing formwork system (the big metal box that wraps around the concrete). We have reached the height of level 5, with the intent for these cores to maintain a steady lead over the concrete floor foundations at all times.

Despite challenging weather experienced in early September including cold, wet and windy conditions, our project team remains committed to achieving milestones. The majority of the level 1 concrete and portion of level 2 concrete will be poured by the end of September.

The Eighty Eight O'Connell project team and trades are showing their support of the Mates in Construction ‘Fly the Flag’ day. This is an important cause which acknowledges and promotes mental health awareness within the industry. An event is being held for our team and will feature the renowned local Adelaide comedian, Marc Ryan, also known as ‘The Beautiful Bogan.’ Marc Ryan has a mission to use his lived experience of mental illness to help improve the lives of others. We are looking forward to hearing his story and continuing to support Mates in Construction.

• 1,140 concrete trucks have entered the construction site
• 197,000 tonnes of dirt removed from underground for the basement
• 7,763 trucks of dirt moved
• 368 concrete piles installed
• 35,000m2 of formwork created
• 34 major concrete foundations poured
